A small storm rolled through Sydney’s Inner West this afternoon. Some brief rain, but fantastic looking scenery:

TechEd Sydney - Day One

Published by sethyates under Personal

Finished the first day at TechEd in Sydney. Highlights of the day:

  • The keynote was very interesting. Not your typical Microsoftie jumping around yelling “Developers! Developers! Developers!” like days past. Instead, we were treated to a rather insightful look at the human side of computing and how its changing the culture for the new “digital natives”. Followed up by a fun conference opener by Frank (hey, mate, just noticed I’m not on your blogroll–do I need to send you an email?).
  • Catching up with my mate Paul Andrew at his Windows Workflow Foundation introduction. An awesome presentation as always, and his product looks really cool.
  • Ron Jacobs gave another good presentation on “What do architects do anyway?”….Ah, finally I have an answer to that burning question :-)
  • Lunch was surprisingly good.
  • Network connection at the CommNet was excellent. My favourite employment site loaded in a blink of an eye.

Lowlights:

  • The X-Box 360 stations were chocka everytime I dropped by.
  • The weather in Sydney was so nice today that it was a shame to stay inside all day.
  • Network connection in the hotel sucks arse. No WiFi. Shamefully slow broadband.

Off to TechEd Sydney

Published by sethyates under Personal

Off to TechEd in Sydney tomorrow. Its going to be great. Will hopefully catch with a friend or two or three. I also found out that Scott Guthrie has used used UrlRewriter.Net in some of his samples. Cool - thanks Scott!

I’ve started work on an IIS7 version of the rewriter, but got sick and haven’t found time to restart on it since then. I’ll get back to it as soon as I’m done with another project I’ve got on now.
